Birmingham ranks in the top 20 UK unis

We’re the 119th best in the world too

Brilliant Birmingham has been ranked inside the top 20 universities in the UK.

Birmingham comes in at number 119 in the world – a month after being chosen as The Times’ best university for graduate prospects this year.

We were also one of the biggest climbers, moving up a huge 29 places.

78 UK unis have been named amongst the best 800 in the world by the Times Higher Education rankings.

Top performers around the country were obviously Oxford (2), Cambridge (4) and Imperial (8), but the four London-based unis in the top 30 excelled themselves to confirm our capital as the world’s leading academic city.

Phil Baty, editor of the rankings, commended the UK’s performance but said: “Cuts in higher education funding […] and series of immigration measures affecting overseas students will hinder its performance in the long run.”

Overall it has been an excellent year for higher education in Britain, however, with five more universities in the top 200 than last year.
