Meet Miss Marte: Birmingham’s finest drag queen

Cat O’brien and pals went to check out the Birmingham Drag Queen scene

You may already be familiar with Birmingham’s gay village, this may be because (if you’re a fresher) you’ve probably gone to motion at the hub a few times and have only just clocked that it is actually a pseudonym for Birmingham’s top gay club, Nightingales.  If you’ve been to Nightingales on a Thursday or a Saturday when the glitz and sass is in full swing, you may have met the resident Tranny, Miss Marty.

Miss Marty can pull a few shapes and is notoriously famous for her flirtatious rendition of Kylie Minogue’s In Your Eyes among many other FABULOUS numbers.

It is always important to keep in mind what it is that has inspired your drag persona. Usual favs are Queen Bey, 2007 Brit, Whitney pre crack, Diana Ross, Blonde GaGa and of course, our Patron saint, Geri Haliwell:

HMMMMMM SPICY!

You could be in for a chance to win a cheeky bottle of VK or if you’re really lucky a cheeky jelly shot, but if you’re feeling super balsie get involved with the drinking games (one gay girl, one gay guy, one straight girl, one straight guy necking a beer) and you could win yourself a whole bottle of wine – it will taste like piss but it’s free 😉

Seasons can also affect your inspiration. Halloween is Christmas in the drag calendar and will not go amiss.

Above, Demonic Marty struts her stuff in a red velvet number teamed with what could be a dead bird, performing Monster Mash, circa 2012. Notice the eccentric red Mohawk to match the off-the-shoulder rouge number – stylish and eye-catching. Personally I think the feathers give it a certain…je na sais quoi.

Notice the fierce contouring and devilish eyes.

There’s something quite enthralling about drag queens. They seem to shock and allure at the same time, envisioning your fav pop stars with a sassy twist.

Here we are canoodling with Birmingham’s finest in the Nightingales ‘ladies room’:

If you need a splash of foundation/gloss/bronze don’t fear because they’ve packed the lot and are happy to dish it out in the unisex loos.

Rocking the Lady GaGa look below. A good wig is essential, if you wanna take this seriously don’t even think about purchasing from Selly Joke – it’s expensive looking this good.

But remember boys, don’t forget to tuck…

For a further education into the lives of drag queens, their inspiration and routines, be sure to watch RuPaul’s Drag Race, the American reality competition series, hosted by the fabulous host and mentor, RuPaul. An interesting fact for all those non believers out thur…RuPaul has attained a contract with MAC cosmetics, proving that, that drag has got it in the bag.
