Woman dies after being hit by train near Selly Oak

Train fatality at Bournville station


A woman has died today after being hit by a train at Bournville station earlier this morning.

At 11.45am emergency services were called following reports that a person had been struck by a train at Bournville, which is the next stop from Selly Oak.

A spokesperson from London Midland said “The 10.11am Nottingham to Cardiff Cross Country service was involved. The effect has been quite widespread and it has stopped the trains on the Cross City South network.”

Medics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service arrived promptly but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

She has not yet been identified.

The British Transport Police were notified and are treating the death as non-suspicious.

The station had been closed following the incident but has since reopened.

The ticket office will be closed until tomorrow and services between Bromsgrove and New Street are running with delays of around 40 minutes.

The route between Longbridge and New Street was also affected earlier, with replacement buses being provided instead.

All services are now running but a few delays should be expected.
