Development begins on massive new student properties in city centre

And it’s right beside a pub

Work has begun on Belfast’s biggest student housing development to date, the 740 room halls at College Avenue. This is the second student development in the area after the project at former Belfast Met campus was built last year.

Architectural firm McAleer and Rushe said that the site will also contain retail outlets on the ground floor. The brand new halls are one of several major developments underway across Belfast city centre. Around 3000 rooms have been given the go ahead with a total of 7,500 in development.

This large increase in development is due largely to the new University of Ulster Building coming to Belfast City Centre. The move is expected to bring a large influx of new students to Belfast.

Other signs of development created by the move include the two new Wetherspoons planned for the city.

Speaking about the development, local student Sean Creany said “Awesome spot. Great idea. But I bet the prices are ridiculous.”
