James Nesbitt is the Ulster University chancellor

He has been for six years

James Nesbitt is the chancellor for the University of Ulster and apparently nobody knew about it.

The actor known for playing Bofur in The Hobbit franchise has held the ceremonial position of chancellor for the University of Ulster since 2010.

That’s right, he’s been chancellor for six years.

Since slipping under the radar as Chancellor, Ballymena born James Nesbitt has presented honorary degrees to the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Ian McKellen.

Bewildered Belfast undergrad, Colm Smyth said: “What? I didn’t know he was chancellor, that’s wild.”

Liam Neeson may have gone to Queen’s, but James Nesbitt is the Ulster chancellor.
