QUB drops out of top 30 unis in the country

According to The Sunday Times rankings

QUB has dropped nine places in the Sunday Times University rankings, to number 38.

The fall is due to a dip in student satisfaction, while the rating – which is widely seen as pretty meaningless – has gone up at other unis.

In slightly more positive news, the university was ranked in the top 200 in the QS World University Rankings this year, and the Research quality at Queen’s is within the top 40.

And the Good University Guide said over half the submissions from Queen’s for the Research Assessment were rated as “world-leading or internationally excellent”.

Queen’s is also an increasingly popular choice with international students and the completion rate is among the highest in the UK,with 92.2% of students passing their degree.

Third year Law and Spanish student Amy Kerr says “Queen’s has pretty much everything a student needs. A great library and close proximity to loads of bars.”

Our SU President, Ciaran Gallagher (the pirate guy) told The Sunday Times Queen’s was a “close-knit, beautiful campus filled with fun people and a great vibe” where “all your dreams and desires will be catered for”.

The future of society.

Close proximity to the Holylands, Stranmillis and Botanic means Queen’s  is a lively, cheap and friendly campus. Aimee Hanna, first year Criminology student, describes it as “buzzing”.

Ongoing building work and renovations mean that more resources, such as the new center for experimental medicine, will be made available to students in the near future.

The graduate prospects stand at an impressive 75.1% and graduate salaries are much higher than other (more expensive) universities in the UK.

Living expenses are also much lower compared to those in England, Scotland and Wales.

We’re a clever bunch at QUB

Modern History and social anthropology student Michael Smyth said: ” I think the Lanyon Building is a great campus centerpiece. The building really  gives you the sense you are part of an institution steeped in history and tradition.”

Of course, if you can’t get over Queen’s new low, there’s always the alternative…
