Belfast – one of the best cities to live in?

Belfast named amongst “most liveable” as well as topping the list as the optimistic city in the UK

Belfast, the city the majority of us call home, comes in 8th most liveable city in Britain, according to a new survey.

The research carried out by Money Supermarket depended on salary levels, life satisfaction and unemployment rates.

Apparently we’re super duper employable, richer and more satisfied than people in Glasgow or Birmingham. Go us.

We all know there are undoubtedly  some great things about living in Belfast (we take a lot of smiley selfies, so we’re apparently happiest in the UK!).

Just your average cheerful night in the happiest city in the UK

Undoubtedly there are also certain aspects of this fine city we could do without, not least of which is the glorious weather (Spring started this week, but it’s not like you’d fucking notice…)

Beautiful summertime

And then there’s the accent. There’s nothing that makes us cringe more than hearing the grating, nasally tones of a fellow Belfastian (AKA Belfie) whining on the television. You could be a prominent scholar talking about astro-physics and it wouldn’t matter, because once that accent spills out everyone will just think you’re a leprechaun or a hood.

So yes, there are certain aspects which make Belfast a tad difficult to handle at times, but all these things are what make us unique. Say what you want about it, but Belfast is a damned interesting place to live in spite of it’s foibles.

We may not be voted the city best for sport (Glasgow) or even best for a night out (Newcastle, apparently), but we do try.

It helps that Belfast has also just been named the most optimistic city in the UK – thank Christ because without that unending optimism we’d likely all have emigrated to Canada by now.
