The £117k stash of cannabis was discovered in the popular student area of Stranmillis, in a house at St Albans Gardens on Tuesday the 28th.

After seizing the contents of the factory, Detective Inspector Peter Mullan said he believed that: “in this particular instance, it would appear that someone was staying in the property and tending to the plants,” and he urges anyone who may have witnessed individuals entering or leaving the property to contact PSNI or Crimestoppers directly.

Detective Inspector Mullan also added that the raid was a “significant seizure”, and that they have been working closely with residents, local communities and officers to crack down on the issues of drug supply and distribution in South Belfast.

The huge seizure was made in the popular student area of Stranmillis

Mullan warned that “where properties are being used to grow cannabis plants, electricity supplies are often tampered with and this presents a risk to adjacent properties. The PSNI would like to encourage landlords and property owners to make regular checks of their property to ensure they are not being used by criminal elements.”
