Vote: Which halls are best for pre-drinking?

Let’s settle this once and for all

It’s the age old argument  about which halls are best for pre-drinking and partying.

While some say its blatantly Trefloyne for its glamorous yet affordable kitchen/living room combo, others will throw back that actually PJM is the best because every prinks is almost literally a house party. Every halls claims to be the best, but it’s time to set the record straight once and for all with a definitive vote.

Penbryn

This isnt even half our flat m8

Penbryn has the advantage of forcing you to get to know your flatmates better than most people know themselves, due to a complete lack of any communal social areas other than the kitchen which is about the size of the average bathtub. This forces you to pre-drink in your flatmates rooms, which is definitely a cosier experience than might be found in any other halls. Plus, room-dwelling hermits withdrawn, you’re guaranteed at least 20 people in attendance, even if a few of them are just humouring you until you fuck off to town and they can sleep in peace.

Rosser

Original rich boys what? you should be proud to be invited to our parties.

Rosser Tossers? I think not… sure we have tiny rooms with en suits but when the party is kicking off and you need somewhere to empty your tiny bladder, well there’s no communal toilet so you better be nice to the host? Besides with the ridiculous angled breakfast bar it makes the best arena for an all night drinking casino featuring favourites such as Ring of Fire, Ride the Bus and even the ever so simple Red or Black.

Oh yeah, we also have two sofa’s making it the comfiest halls for prinks as well, and we are the original rich boys on campus before the Fferm appeared.

Cwrt Mawr

The friendliest party you ever seen guys, come on in…

Cwrt Mawr is the best place to go. It’s a really communal and lovely part of campus. It’s basically like Trefloyne – only that you don’t have to worry about destroying the newly refurbished kitchen. People in Cwrt Mawr usually have several prinks parties at the same time, and you can just switch from one to the other. Because guess what? Everyone’s friends anyway. It’s a massive house party every evening in a truly communal party place. Plus, the taxi drivers always know where to go. Nobody knows where Rosser G is anyway.

Bryderw

With a comparative lack of campus buzzkill police, no taxi’s to town to deal with and the best place to smoke out of all the halls, Brynderw is already a strong contender for best place to predrink. That’s before you even consider the people – Brynderw is home to by far the most eclectic mix of people out of all the halls.

Who goes Rosser or Penglais? Boring rich fucks that’s who. Who goes Cwrt Mawr or Tref? Boring uninventive fucks. Who goes to Brynderw? Those who realise it’s not how big the shower is or how new the cooker is that makes your university days, it’s what you do, and that paying less rent for more of run down home  means an extra bit of dolla to keep the party going.

Trefloyne

So much room for activities

Trefloyne is obviously the best here, no question really right? The rent price is the same as PJM, the rooms are the biggest on campus with a private en suite sink, AKA cheeky chunder in your room without needing to disrupt house mates as you peak too early at pre’s. Before Penglais Fferm we were the newest block and to be honest, it’s still a glorious kitchen with gleaming ovens and a super comfy sofa.

The structural design of Tref also means that beer pong can be played easily and unlike other halls, it isn’t breaking up pre drinks and causing groups to segregate, Trefloyne is 100% faultless and you know it. Did we also mention that in the morning after a night out, any lecture theatre is merely a five minute walk from bed. The SU is a mere two minute walk for when you fancy that mid-day pint and pool.

Pentre Jayne Morgan

such big kitchens

PJM is great for hosting house parties. The kitchens are massive, there’s no carpet or anything expensive to damage and it’s close to all the ‘lesser halls’ so inviting people round is easy. There’s usually a good patch of grass outside so ifyou have lots of people and the weather’s nice you can head outside, how does predrinking in the sun on the grass not sound like a dream? And because the blocks are separated the neighbours are much less anal about the noise.

There’s a bath upstairs too; fill it with ice water, chuck your alcohol in and you’re sorted. And it’s cheaper than FFerm, so you can feel good about that too. Only idiots pay for that much for a house without actually getting a key anyway.

Penglais Farm

Everyone at P. Fferm has class

We’re better than you, and we know it.

Penglais is easily the best halls on campus because you get double beds, good quality bathrooms and amazing kitchens – it’s like staying in a hotel. You’re close to the uni and the communal vibe is brilliant, everybody knows everybody in the Fferm and there are always window conversations to be had with the block. You’re close to the uni and not too far from town but you get to have your own little patch of luxury whilst looking down over the commoners in PJM.

Seafront

PARTY

It’s the closest to town by far, logistically making it the best for pre drinks. There is no need to fear Penglais hill when figuring out how to get to town because oh wait… you’re already in town.

The greatest flat parties and group meals because the kitchens are massive,  and with a great view over the sea it makes for the most scenic of parties. And then, when you return after a few too many quad vods and coke, you can fall asleep listening to the sound of the waves. Winner, winner really.
