The Penglais campus is the most environmentally friendly campus in Wales

Nice to come first in something for a change

Penglais campus has become the first university campus in Wales to get a Green Flag award.

Despite opening a questionable campus halfway around the world, University staff are apparently doing something right after achieving the prestigious award which goes out to green spaces that achieve and maintain a high environmental standard.

Whilst Cardiff, Swansea and Bangor are too busy being less green than us, Aber is leading the way with a super green campus.

We were judged on eight key points, including sustainability, conservation, cleanliness and being safe and secure.

Additionally, marks are awarded for “Marketing” and “Management”.

Don’t get these at city uni’s

Director of estates development at Aberystwyth University, Mark Taylor said: “It is pleasing to see the hard work of everyone involved rewarded, in particular our grounds team, and the University estate recognised as a safe, green and enjoyable space for students, staff and visitors. ”

Is this is what the greenest campus in Wales looks like?

With the award we join one of 110 sites in Wales which meet the standards needed to receive either the Green Flag Award or the Green Flag Community Award, as judged by the green-space experts from “Keep Wales Tidy”, the Welsh branch of the “Keep Britain Tidy” campaign.

Film and TV second year Luisardo Gjoni said: “I’m pleased, we should do more the environment and I’m glad to see that the university is a part of helping that.”
