The Aberdeen Tab is looking for writers and we want YOU

You don’t need any experience at all

| UPDATED

Are you an aspiring journalist? A hilarious writer? A jokes meme lord or a film-maker? If you are, The Aberdeen Tab wants you to join our team.

The Aberdeen Tab is written by Aberdeen students, for Aberdeen students. Our open meeting is on Monday 16th the September at 6PM in Room 301 in the MacRobert building. Anyone is free to turn up, and more details can be found here.

If you’re unsure about what The Tab is, or how you can get involved, you’ll find all the information below:

What is The Tab?

The Tab is a student news site with over six million monthly readers. As a student writer, your stories will be shared on The Aberdeen Tab Facebook page, to a readership of 13,000 Aberdeen students – the best are shared across all of our pages, and can reach readers all over the country.

We break the biggest stories on campus. Last year, The Aberdeen Tab broke the news that Aberdeen MedSoc might get kicked out of uni for crashing wedding. Other stories we covered included a group of students were kicked out of Hillhead halls at 1am for singing the Wii music, and Aberdeen student racially abused in Prohibition.

Hundreds of stories published originally on The Tab have made national news, we exposed the Warwick boys who made rape jokes in their group chat, the Coventry dodgeball team who wore anti-semetic slogans on their white t-shirt social, and the Cambridge student who set fire to a £20 note in front of a homeless man.

Why should I write for The Tab and not somewhere else?

Writing for The Aberdeen Tab, your stories will reach thousands of student readers, and while your stories won’t be printed, you’ll get a much better understanding of how modern news media actually works.

The team works with an Assistant Editor based at Tab HQ in London. They provide training in the basics of reporting, and quality advice on how to make your writing stand out you won’t get anywhere else.

Tab alumni frequently go on to work for famous publications all over the world, including VICE, The Times, and Vogue. Just this year, former Tab student writers started jobs at The Telegraph, The Sun, and Cosmopolitan.

How can I get involved?

It’s simple. If you’re keen you can:

Click attending on our Facebook event.

DM us on Instagram.

It’s a chilled and social set-up.

If news isn’t your thing, there’s loads of other things we do. Our student writers produce some of the funniest features you’ll ever read. Some of our best include the ultimate guide on where you should be sitting in Sir Duncan Rice Library, and what it’s actually like to work at a university ball.

We’re also looking for people to run our Instagram! If you consider yourself a meme connoisseur, or you want to try making fun original video, we’d love to have you.

If you have any questions, or can’t make the open meeting, message our page or our Instagram!
