Aberdeen MedSoc under investigation after their annual ball ruins a couple’s wedding

The groom’s nan sustained a serious head injury

Aberdeen’s Medical Society is under investigation by the uni after their annual ball “ruined” a local couple’s wedding celebration.

The MedSoc’s ball was held at the Doubletree Hilton on Saturday 17th of November. That evening, there was a wedding taking place at the same time.

Guests at the wedding reception told the BBC they were left feeling intimidated and scared, and it is alleged that guests were threatened and property was damaged.

Wedding guest Ashley Wilson told the Press and Journal she was “gobsmacked at how appaling their behaviour was” and expressed concerns for the future of the NHS if those are to be its employees.

The groom’s grandmother fell down a set of stairs in an attempt to escape the chaos, leaving her with a three-inch cut to the head. The wound required staples to seal, and the 85 year-old spent the night in hospital.

When asked about the event and the reactions sparked by it, an Aberdeen university spokesperson told The Aberdeen Tab: “The University takes any complaints regarding the behaviour of its students extremely seriously and we have drawn this matter to the attention of the President of our Students’ Association.

“We are also making enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident. Anti-social behaviour will absolutely not be tolerated and there will be a full investigation.”

The MedSoc social media accounts have been taken offline since the event. Specific emails to contact the society are not listed on the SU website in the same way they are for other societies. No official statements have been made by MedSoc.

MedSoc told The Aberdeen Tab: “We are extremely concerned about what has been reported. We are working closely with the university in the investigation”.
