Because good food and drink should be every student’s priority this semester
Time to explore Aberdeen
Bored of ordering ‘the usual’ at the pub? Stuck for ideas on where to take your visiting parents to try to convince them you’re not just living on 85p vodka mixers and toast? Want to get out the flat and revise somewhere with a little more to offer than the library’s filter coffee? Well the hard work has been done for you, all you have to do is choose where to go first!
The Cat In The Window
The perfect destination for pet-sick students looking to get their dose of animal loving. Where better to relax than a café offering sweet treats and an hour-long cuddle with some chilled out cats? It also has yoga sessions – complete with some furry friends and herbal tea – as well as Halloween movie nights! Visits are arranged through online booking so clear your diary and book a place to share a scare with some cats!
Cup
A sweet café off Belmont Street with a ‘waffles and cream’ type theme, it houses a delicate, doll-house interior with beautifully painted teapots to accompany the vast array of teas. With its tiny tables and warm atmosphere, it’s a go-to place for a casual but thoughtful day date.
Contour
Tucked down one of many lanes, flanked by graffiti-d walls and a stone’s throw from Tunnels, this coffee shop is a secret escape from the noise of Aberdeen. With an abundance of smooth wood and the smell of coffee hanging in the air you can pass many easy hours sitting and chatting in front of the large windows.
The Sand Dollar Café
Aptly named, this cosy café sits on the edge of the beach surrounded by the salt air and seagulls. Known for its breakfasts with a view, it’s the perfect place to ‘posh up’ a fry up. Despite its popularity it is light-hearted and relaxed – hard to find in places as busy as this. The best part is that the large portions are guilt-free, simply step outside and take a walk down the beach when you’re finished. By the time you get back around it will be time for an ice cream anyway!
Bar 99
Cue rickety chairs and various documentaries projected silently onto the wall. An inviting cosy bar with wooden interior and candlelit tables, Bar 99 is perfect for some cheap drinks with a bit of taste. Catch it on the right night and you’ll be caught up in the live music performances or salsa lessons! With wines, cocktails, pints and cosy food it’s the place to be to escape a cold, windy Aberdeen evening.
Aunty Bettys
Stonehaven's famous ice cream shop, ready to satisfy all your cravings in one large ice cream scoop. Toppings range from wafers to flakes to maltesers, and with the walls jam packed with jars of every sweet that you could imagine, it's true to say that this is Stonehaven's version of Wonka's Chocolate Factory. And, if it's too cold to brave the beach with a traditional cone there's a 'fully loaded' hot chocolate that means you won't be leaving empty handed.
