Spectra festival brings home the goods

Aberdeen’s festival of light won two awards

| UPDATED

If you’ve lived in Aberdeen in the month of February, chances are you’ve been to Aberdeen’s famous Spectra festival of light. Freshers, look forward to next year, cause its a good ‘un.

In February 2017, around 65000 people marvelled at light shows on buildings, illuminated sculptures and interactive installations all aroud Aberdeen’s city centre. If you didn’t see an Instagram post of someone underneath that massive light up cloud, then you probaly dont have Instagram.

Earlier this week, the Spectra team brought home not one but two awards from The Drum Scottish Events Awards, for Large Event of the Year and Team of the Year. Councillor Marie Boulton, city council culture spokesperson told The Evening Express:

“To win this award against such strong competition is an incredible example of how our staff, volunteers and our arts partner Curated Place work together in delivering such a unique festival for the people of Aberdeen and beyond.”

Winning these two awards is a massive achievement for such a young festival, which has only run for a couple of years so far. With such immediate success, we can only see it increasing in popularity and magnitude in the years to come.

The dates for next year’s festival are already set, so get ready for some pretty lit evenings (get it??) in Aberdeen from the 8th to the 11th of February 2018.
