Second bouncer cleared of murdering man outside bar

He has been found guilty of assault

The second bouncer accused of murdering a man outside Tonik bar has been cleared of the charges.

Jonas Marcius was cleared after a three week trial for the murder of 26-year-old Craig Grant in August last year.

Marcius was alleged to have killed Grant after seizing him by the neck to force him to the ground and then putting him in a choke hold. He denied the charges.

Jonas Marcius has been cleared.

The jury found him guilty of assaulting the young father butruled he was not responsible for his death.

Adrian Morley was also cleared of the murder of Grant last week. A third bouncer, Kiel Hauley, had his plea of a lesser charge of assault accepted in his trial.

CCTV shown throughout the trial of Macrius showed Morley restraining Grant’s legs, Hauley at his back and Marcius holding him to the ground in a choke hold.

Because traces of cocaine had been found in Grant’s system after his death the court ruled it was not possible to determine the cause of death, given it Grant could have died from an irregular heart beat due to his use of the Class A drug.

Giving evidence at the trial, pathologist Dr Marjorie Turner said:  “There is no way that you can definitively tell that this man died from mechanical asphyxiation of the neck when you have two potential causes.”
