The uni have represented me as an international student – actually I’m from Barnet in London

You couldn’t make it up

The models used for the International Students section of the uni’s website have one thing in common – they’re all British.

North Londoner Abrar Nazir didn’t realise his photo from the prospectus was now being used on the uni’s website. He said:

“It’s puzzling, to say the least, seeing as myself, Christine and Natalie are all in fact British!

“But we did sign a paper to say the university could use our image on their website as they saw fit.”

The University of Aberdeen boasts that 20% of its students are international, from over 120 countries.

But apparently they couldn’t find any on campus to photograph for their shoot that day.

Londoner Abrar.

Biochemistry grad Abrar was somewhat confused after finding out he was online: “This whole having my image on the international student section is strange to be honest.

“I’m not offended, but people keep saying I should be.

“I’m very proud to have studied at UoA and I don’t mind them using my image for recruiting purposes, whether the prospective students be home or international.”

Christine who is currently doing her MSc in Psychological Research at Edinburgh said: “Years ago they asked us if they could take a picture but didn’t say what they were going use it for.

“I think it’s amusing.”

Former student George tried to explain the uni’s decision, he said: “It’s likely to have been taken from a pool of available photos.

“It shows diversity in a picture, the fastest way is a range of skin tones.

“You could equally have a bunch of international students who are all pale skinned – it would be correct but look misrepresentative in a photo.”

The models in the photos haven’t yet decided if they’ll go to the uni about it.
