Bovvered? Only 1415 students voted in new rector

Even student pres is unsure of rector’s relevance

Unsurprisingly, only 2000 odd students voted in this term’s rector elections – maybe because no one knows what a rector does.

Maggie Chapman won the role in Aberdeen receiving 1415 votes.

She wiped the floor with James Steel who may have been spending too much time online.

The rector supposedly is meant to represent students on the University Court (the what?)

But even student President Emily Beever appreciates the role might be outdated. While she said she’s looking forward to working with Maggie she added: “It’s nearly 160 years since the post was established to represent students so Maggie will have to work hard to ensure the role keeps its relevance.”
