Missing Commonwealth athlete found in London after disappearing from ASV
Two Cameroon wrestlers disappeared from Aberdeen last week as they were training ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
The hide and seek experts from Cameroon’s Commonwealth wrestling team were last seen at Hillhead Halls on Sunday, a week before the Games are set to commence in Glasgow.
The unnamed 26 and 31 year olds went missing from the training camp at ASV on Tuesday.
There were (originally) 47 Cameroon athletes in Aberdeen, but the country’s sports teams are not unknown for their vanishing act. Back in 2012, seven of the Olympic team skived off, including all of the boxing team and half of the swimming team. The government at the time said at they tried to run away then because of economic reasons.
Perhaps the wrestlers drank a little too much Buckie with the remaining postgrads at Hillhead and, once everyone had chipped in, they could then afford the Megabus down to the capital.
12-17 hours later they fulfilled their dream and were watching The Lion King at the West End.
Another theory suggests they attempted to do the “how far can I travel for free in a week” challenge. Others believe the athletes were attempting to spy on other teams competing in the Games to gain some much needed insight but went too far south.
The first of the disappearing duo was found by police in London three days on.
The hunt continues for the second wrestler.
