Memoirs of a gaysha: The wonderful world of Grindr

The Tab delves into the world of Grindr – a seedier version of tinder, exclusively for gay and bisexual men.

Many of you may have heard of the social networking app with its bad reputation. Both within and outside the gay community it is a notorious hotbed for ‘sluts’ and people who ‘just want a shag’.  However, it seems as though Grindr is so much more than that.

Grindr provides a constant source of entertainment for the curious gay male. Imagine tinder but with a lot more flesh on show and instead of cheesy chat-up lines, you get raunchy messages like this…

Who could resist sweet-nothings like this…?

When joining Grindr you have to be prepared to be shocked by some of the more obscene characters it has to offer.  I’ve experienced men approach me in the street because they recognise me from Grindr.

It can be a very unnerving experience, particularly due to the advanced tracking system meaning the range can pick up matches just metres from you. This allows for you to be spotted not only in the street but at work, in a club, at the airport and, as these messages show, even in coffee shops…

The important thing to remember with Grindr, however, is that it is possible to find true love. I know a few people who have met the supposed loves of their life after chatting on Grindr – it’s not all about finding your “flavour of the month”. The only problem is that you just have to get past the creepy messages first.

AJ expertly straddles that line between creepy and charming.

The best thing you can do is just laugh it off and make the best out of it that you can, and in no way should people be feeling shameful about being on Grindr.  It has to be considered that not everyone on Grindr is looking for a quick shag, although those who are shouldn’t be embarrassed either.

Sex is good for you and as long as it’s safe, between two adults, and those adults aren’t in monogamous relationships then it’s fine.  Don’t give the people looking for sex a hard time, they do try to make it romantic as possible…

So, if you’re a gay or bisexual guy then head onto Grindr for some funny messages, for the chance of meeting a hot guy or perhaps even the love of your life.  You never know who you might find.

Grindr attracts all sorts, so there really will be something for everyone..

An app which is essentially designed to find the nearest gay guy to you is a genius idea which shouldn’t be frowned upon.  The app itself continues to promote safe sex and it’s easy enough to block unwanted suitors.

I saw a comment recently on Facebook, stating: ‘I used to think that a grand sense of unity brought the gay male community together as a whole. I’m now fairly sure that the majority of us are connected through having seen the same people naked.’

Aberdeen’s a very small place, as you all well know, so all I ask is for you to stay safe kids. Happy Grinding!
