All the rumours Meghan and Harry put to bed in their Netflix documentary

The Meghan Markle and Prince Harry documentary dropped on Netflix and without question everyone has been searching for the truth. In 2020, both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the Royal Family in a bid for a more private life for themselves and their children. Now they have left, Meghan and Harry are at the forefront of their Netflix documentary which has been dispelling rumours about them, right down to the first dance song they had at their wedding. Here is a rundown of the facts versus fiction from the Meghan and Harry Netflix documentary:

Their first dance wedding song was actually to Land of a Thousand Dances

In the documentary, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed their first dance wedding song. The couple revealed their first dance was to Land of a Thousand Dances. Meghan said: “I just really wanted the music to be fun. Even our first dance. It was like a whirlwind, it was so great.” The couple famously had no cameras or many people at their wedding reception in 2018 and provided a first look into the reception in the Netflix documentary. Meghan can even be seen dancing with Elton John in new photos.

There was a lot of speculation to what their first dance song actually was. The Telegraph published back in 2018 that the couple chose I Wanna Dance With Somebody as “an opening number” to their wedding reception. It was reported that during their reception, guests “were welcomed into a glass marquee in the grounds for a sit-down meal, emotional speeches and a wide range of music.”

They actually met on Instagram after Harry saw a photo of Meghan

In the documentary, fans were shocked to find out that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle actually met on Instagram. In the first episode of the documentary, Prince Harry revealed he first saw a picture of Meghan in an Instagram photo on a mutual friend’s account in 2016. He said: “Meghan and I met over Instagram. I was scrolling through my feed, and someone who was a friend had this video of the two of them, it was like a Snapchat.” Meghan said she had a puppy filter on in the photo and then their relationship blossomed.

Harry then messaged their mutual friend to find out more about Meghan and the friend emailed Meghan to let her know that “Prince Haz” had asked about her. They then had their first date at Soho House and the rest is history! When their engagement was announced, Prince Harry and Meghan told the BBC they had been set up on a blind date by a mutual friend at Soho House’s Dean Street Townhouse.

Harry proposed to Meghan while they had a mini picnic at Frogmore Cottage

While Prince Harry and Meghan did tell the world he proposed while Meghan was cooking, the Netflix documentary has revealed way more. Harry said he wanted to propose “earlier” but had to ask permission from the late Queen Elizabeth II. He said: “I did pop a bottle of champagne while she was roasting a chicken and that kind of slightly gave the game away. She was like, ‘You never drink champagne, what’s the occasion?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know, I just had it like, lying around, whatever.'”

Harry then set up a picnic blanket outside surrounded by candles and flowers. Although he told Meghan “not to peek” while he prepared the proposal, a video clip showed Meghan whispering to her friend on the phone: “Oh my God, Jess. It’s happening!”

The couple previously told the BBC that Harry has proposed while they were cooking, leaving many to wonder how he surprised her. They also revealed they held a private engagement party where they dressed in penguin onesies, before posing for their official photos at Kensington Palace.

The supposed feud between Meghan and Kate Middleton

There have been a number of alleged feuds between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, many of which have been put to bed by the them. In the run up to Meghan and Harry’s wedding, reports emerged that Meghan made Kate cry over a disagreement about the flower girl’s dress. It was reported that Kate was “in tears” over a wedding fitting.

In their interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan said: “The narrative with Kate, which didn’t happen, was really, really difficult and something that I think, that’s when everything changed, really.” In the Netflix documentary, Meghan said how helpful Kate had been while she was adjusting to royal life.
