George from MAFS UK has been arrested over allegations of harassment

E4 still broadcast pre-recorded a episode featuring George

Married At First Sight (MAFS) UK star George Roberts has reportedly been arrested and E4 continued to air an episode last night featuring him.

The 40-year-old is  said to be facing a police investigation over allegations of harassment and coercive control.

Just over one week ago George denied criticisms of his behaviour made by his ex girlfriends to The Sun newspaper before starring on the show. E4 said contestants on the show are subject to the “most detailed police checks a production is able to undertake.”

A spokesperson from the Met Police said: “A 40-year-old man was arrested by Met officers in Worcestershire on 29th September on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour. He was taken to Worcestershire police station and subsequently bailed to return pending further enquiries. This follows an allegation of controlling and coercive behaviour and harassment reported to the Met on 26th September.”

George got married to April on the show after three exes reportedly made complaints about his alleged emotional abuse to the police. Despite being popular with fans of the show, George’s three ex-girlfriends each made independent complaints to the police about his alleged “obsessive” and “abusive” behaviour.”

According to an insider who spoke with The Sun, the allegations against George have been a ‘nightmare’ for the Channel, who didn’t know about the allegations in his past before. It was reported that many in the show believed they would have to pull or re-edit it.  That they didn’t yesterday has raised concerns as to how Mr Roberts is being portrayed publicly by the Channel and whether that is appropriate in view of the current reported police investigation. The Tab has reached out to the representative for E4 but hasn’t had a response back.

A spokesperson from E4 previously told The Sun: “We work incredibly closely with our production partners to ensure all Married at First Sight UK contributors are subject to rigorous background and psychological checks, including the most detailed police checks a production is able to undertake. Any allegations of this nature are taken extremely seriously by Channel 4.”

The Tab has requested comment from E4 and is yet to have a response.
