Meet Meg Bellamy, the new actress who has been cast as Kate Middleton in The Crown

I am SO jealous

Who didn’t dream of growing up and becoming a princess when they were little? But for most of us, that’s all it ever was, a dream. But not for Meg Bellamy, the 19-year-old newcomer who has just been cast in season six of The Crown.

Meg will be playing Kate Middleton during her years as a student at St Andrews between 2001 and 2005, when her relationship with Prince William began.

The Crown season five will be released on Netflix in November this year whilst filming for season six will begin this autumn – but in the mean time, who is Meg Bellamy? Here’s everything you need to know about the new Duchess of Cambridge.

Her role in The Crown is her professional debut

At just 19 years old, Meg’s role as Princess Kate will mark her first major acting role. At school she was involved in school productions and the choir as well as having a performing job at Legoland.

Meg was head girl at St Crispin Comprehensive School in Wokingham, not far from where Kate herself grew up. She got an A* in A-Level drama, which she described as giving her the “opportunity to learn about a wide range of plays, styles and practitioners.” Huge Kate vibes x

She described being cast in the role as ‘an honour’

In a post on Instagram, Meg said: “Pinch me please… So excited to announce that I will be playing Kate Middleton in Series 6 of Netflix’s The Crown.” She continued: “It is such an honour to be joining the most incredible cast and crew, and I will strive to do Kate justice.”

Her boyfriend, Connor Dutton, also posted on Instagram about the news. He said: “I’m thrilled to share with you that my gorgeously talented girlfriend will be playing Kate Middleton in Series 6 of Netflix’s The Crown. I’m so proud of you baby.”

Meg Bellamy got her role in The Crown following a casting call on social media

Meg secured the role by submitting a self-taped video audition following an open casting call on social media which sought “an exceptional young actor to play Kate Middleton” with “strong physical resemblance.” Alexa, play It Should Have Been Me.

The show has spent a long time looking for the right Kate: “They’ll only cast someone if they can find the right candidate,” an inside source told The Sun. Rumours of other contenders for the role included Allison Williams and Lady Alice St Clair-Erksine.

Meg will star alongside 16-year-old Rufus Kampa and 21-year-old Ed McVey who have both been cast as Prince William in the series as the show tells the story of their University romance. Season six is also thought to explore other topics such as the family coping with Princess Diana’s death.

Season’s five of The Crown will be released in November with season six set to begin filming later this year. For all the latest Netflix news, drops, quizzes and memes like The Holy Church of Netflix on Facebook.
