‘It was good until I got caught’: 18-year-old fired after faking Covid to go to Leeds Fest

Omair thought he could’ve gotten away with it until his manager saw him on ITV News

An 18-year-old has been fired after being spotted at Leeds Fest by his manager who thought he was sick over the bank holiday weekend. What seemed like a foolproof plan fell short after Omair was interviewed by ITV News ahead of the festival.

The Tab spoke to Omair who once worked nights at a warehouse and is now on the hunt for a new job after spending all his money at Leeds Festival following being caught out on national television.

He said: “I wasn’t planning on going to Leeds, it was a last minute thing so I faked Covid so I could go and I was approached by the ITV News people leaving the station. I didn’t think anything of it but later I realised what if my manager saw me on TV, which he did to which I received many calls and and that email in my TikTok.” In a video posted on TikTok, Omair shows an email which appears to be from someone at his work, asking if he had just been interviewed about the festival at Leeds Station.

Omair described how he faked a positive Covid-19 test by using an old picture he had and his workplace didn’t even ask to see it. Everything was “good” for him until he got caught.

He was nervous he was going to get caught out at first because he was asked for his name and where he was from by the ITV journalist and so he had a minor “oh dear” moment thinking that someone would see him. Unfortunately someone did and although not officially being fired, much is to be assumed as Omair said he was taken off the rota, but said “it is what it is”.

He was “stressed at first” after losing his job but now he is optimistic he will find a new job that “could be better” than his last one, although he is hoping for something soon as he spent all of his money at the festival. Yikes.

Despite all the stress, he still thinks it was all worth it because he wouldn’t have gone otherwise and that “jobs comes and go”. To be fair to him he got to see The 1975, Dave and Arctic Monkeys in the space of three days, you’ve got to respect his hustle.
