Four key cast members have now said they are not returning for Sex Education season four

At this point, will there be anyone left soon?

A fourth cast member has now confirmed they will not be returning for the upcoming fourth season of Sex Education on Netflix. Three cast members had previously admitted they are not returning for more episodes, calling the news “very sad”. The next season was confirmed in September last year, has just starting filming, and is expected at some time in 2023.

Here’s a rundown of the cast members who are not returning, and their reasons why.

Earlier this year, Simone Ashley, who plays Olivia on the show, announced she’s not continuing in her role. She explained she is now a “Bridgerton gal” and cannot work on the two shows alongside each other. She will instead be returning as Kate in future seasons of the Regency drama.

Particia Allision

Patricia Allision, who plays Ola, became the next star to announce they are leaving the cast. Speaking on Capital Xtra’s breakfast show, Patricia said: “I absolutely have loved being on Sex Education so so much, and playing Ola, but unfortunately, I won’t be joining the team for season four.”

She went on to explain that other opportunities have come up, but said she’s loved her time on the show over the last three years. She described it as a hard decision to make, but said people have to say goodbye to projects they love if they want to move forward.

Shortly after her on-screen partner Ola left the show, it was announced Lily, played by Tanya Reynolds, will also not be a character featured in the fourth season. Tanya told Radio Times she is “sad, very sad” that she is not coming back to her role.

She added: “It’s just the natural progression of these shows – when you have such a big ensemble cast and so many characters, I think you have to let a few older characters go to make way for newer ones, which is absolutely the right thing, the way it should happen. I loved every minute of it and I loved Lily with my entire heart. Three seasons was just a really perfect amount for me.”

Rakhee Thakrar

Rakhee Thakrar is the latest member of the Sex Education cast to confirm she will not be returning for season four of the show. She has played favourite Miss Sands for the first three seasons of the show. Speaking of her departure from the series, she said: “I’m not part of the new series. I can’t really talk about why. But I’m so proud of the show and grateful to have been part of something so important. There is nothing bad about Sex Education.”

Rakhee said she has thoroughly enjoyed her time on the show, but it has sadly come to an end.

I’m so sad!
