‘They’re so insecure’: This is apparently why Love Is Blind doesn’t do body diversity

I’m cringing at this response, honestly

Obviously, we’re eternally invested in Love Is Blind. But the lack of body diversity – in the entire reality TV world, actually – has historically been TERRIBLE. Producers are constantly arguing the cis, straight-sized, able-bodied person is the most desirable, and what people want to see. But this simply isn’t true.

Which is why, when Vanessa Lachey was interviewed by Insider on the issue, her response was super disappointing.

From diverse bodies being too “insecure” to the age-old desirability debate, here’s every unsurprising thing she said:

Vanessa reckons people with diverse bodies are too concerned with low-self esteem to actually commit: “Their whole life they’ve been so insecure about being themselves because of this crazy swipe generation that we are in and this catfishing world that we’re in, that they’re so afraid to be themselves,” she said.

Now, credit where credit’s due. Vanessa – who hosts the show with her husband, Nick Lachey – isn’t actually a part of the casting process. She believes the casting crew on Love Is Blind are up for giving people who don’t fit into “conventional” standards of beauty a “fair shot”. But her main concern is about bodily diverse people not being able to find themselves, apparently.

“I wonder if they truly don’t have enough time in those two weeks to find themselves… and then be themselves to then find that spouse,” she said.

Vanessa also believes that the lack of body diversity is down to the casting crew not having any control over who gets picked.
