Right so what even is Resident Evil? The new Netflix show topping the top 10 list

It’s overtaken Stranger Things, but people are saying it’s so bad it needs to be taken down completely

It’s been out for a week, and already Resident Evil is taking over Netflix. It’s straight in the top spot of the top 10 list for most watched shows, and loads of people are talking about it. But, so many of the reviews are slating it, and people are even calling for it to be taken off Netflix all together, because it’s so bad.

So, right now, a lot of us are confused. Is this show any good? Do I need to watch it? It looks like it could have some Stranger Things vibes, and it’s taken over Stranger Things in rankings. But it’s hard to avoid people saying it’s god awful. Here’s what you need to know, to hopefully give you some clarity.

Resident Evil is all about the aftermath of a viral outbreak

Resident Evil is an eight-part post-apocalypse series, following a survivor of a viral outbreak who is searching for a cure whilst also battling with an evil corporation. It’s inspired by the survival horror video game franchise with the same name.

The full Netflix synopsis reads: “Year 2036 – 14 years after the spread of Joy caused so much pain, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and mind-shattering creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the sinister Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.”

The show is based in fictional New Raccoon City, where bioweapon developers Umbrella Corp have nuked. The area was the ground zero for the first major outbreak of the virus, and now there are loads of monsters and zombies there. However the showrunner has said the focus is more on the characters and their journeys, over the monsters.

In the show, Albert Wesker (Lance Reddick) works for the Umbrella Corporation and he moves to New Raccoon City with his children. Then, things take a turn and the show returns 14 years later to look at the aftermath of the zombie outbreak, focusing on his daughter Jade (Ella Balinska).

Loads of people are saying it’s absolute rubbish, but it’s top of the Netflix top 10 list

Despite what on the surface looks like huge success, the show is being ripped into. It currently scores a pretty awful 26 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and an average user rating of 3.6 per cent on IMDb. Yes, that makes it one of the worst scoring shows on IMDb.

A lot of people on Twitter are absolutely slating it, with one person calling it “the most boring, pointless garbage I’ve seen all year”. Another said it should be removed from Netflix, as everything about it has been “butchered”.

But, it’s not all bad. Some are backing the show! People are also saying it has the potential to be better than Stranger Things, and another said: “Please how good is this Resident Evil on Netflix?”
