All Stars 7 just did a Drag Race franchise first with this episode’s iconic lip sync
More of this going forward please!!!
It is actually rather crazy that all these years into the RuPaul’s Drag Race cultural phenomenon the world has found itself in since the show premiered at the end of the 00s, the show is still finding ways to surprise us. With this week’s episode of All Stars 7, for the first time ever, the top two didn’t lip sync to a song. They lip synced to a spoken word scene instead! How the hell has this never been done before?
Jinkx VS Monét
So, this week’s All Stars 7 task was to create a viral dance to a RuPaul bop – Jinkx and Monét killed it and were named as the Legendary Legend Star winners and got ready to lip sync for the power to block one of their competitors. But instead of a song for the two to go head to head for, it was spoken word! For the first time ever!
The two faced off against the iconic (and unbelievably camp) ‘The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia’ speech from the sitcom Designing Women – originally done by Dixie Carter as Julia Sugarbaker. Monét took the victory, but honestly, both absolutely killed it. I hope we get to see more of these spoken word lip syncs because they’re such a staple in gay clubs, with lots of queens mixing in iconic viral videos or film scenes into songs when performing. I need Drag Race UK to do some Gemma Collins on Celebrity Big Brother scenes NOW.
