These are the 10 best The Umbrella Academy episodes ever, according to IMDb

Justice for season three

We’ve all been swept off our feet with The Umbrella Academy, falling in love with the Hargreaves siblings and their chaotic storylines. We’ve all got our favourites when it comes to the show: our favourite character, our favourite power and our favourite episode.

Whilst a lot of us might be quite divided on what we think is the best episode, there is one thing we are clearly all united on and that’s that season three has been the worst season so far, with none of its episodes making it into the top 10. Whilst it’s all well and good arguing about what the best episode of Umbrella Academy is, but which definitively is the best one? Well, according to their imdb ranking, these are the best episodes of The Umbrella Academy:

10. The  Swedish Job (Season two, episode three)

IMDb rating 8.3

Coming in at number 10 is the third episode of the second season. I personally loved the story line of Klaus being the leader of a cult, it just felt so right for his quirky, unhinged character, and this episode displays those personality traits at their finest. However, it’s not a good enough story line to stand by itself, it needs the dynamic of his siblings. After the siblings finally united in season one just to have them split up again at the start of season two felt quite jarring. And by this episode, the third in the season, it really likes their inevitable reunion is being drawn out. The absolute best part of this episode though, Diego and Lila finally kiss, give me more.

9. A Light Supper (Season two, episode six)

IMDb rating 8.3

It’s a family reunion! This episode displays the Hargreaves siblings at their absolute best – when they’re all together. I love the banter and the dynamic of how they all interact with each other so any episode that has all of them in: sign. me. up. This is definitely a worthy contender for the top 10.

8. The Day That Wasn’t (Season one, episode six)

IMDb rating 8.3

This episode is definitely the best for any hard core Luther and Allison shippers out there, myself included. They’re adopted, it’s fine. With another apocalypse looming, we see all the siblings try to tie up all their loose ends and for Allison and Luther, this is admitting their feelings for each other. This episode sees them kiss for supposedly the first time, but I’m not so sure – they look very comfortable with each other.

7. Öga for Öga (Season two, episode seven)

IMDb rating 8.4

This episode just solidifies why I don’t like Number Five, he spends this episode murdering people and narcissistically visiting himself in the past. Although what this episode does have going for it is the introduction of a relationship between Diego and Lila, with Lila referring to Diego as her “boyfriend” in front of her mother. I’m hooked.

6. Changes (Season one, episode nine)

IMDb rating 8.4

Viktor’s powers are back, baby. This episode is an absolute rollercoaster to say the least. First we found out Allison isn’t dead (yay) but, her vocal chords are so badly damaged by Viktor that she may never be able to use her power again (boo). Viktor is off the rails, he kills Leonard – thank god – and attacks someone else so the siblings lock him up, naturally. If there is one phrase to describe this entire episode it would be ‘childhood trauma’.

5. The Seven Stages (Season two, episode eight)

IMDb rating 8.5

Why this episode made it into the top 10, I’m not sure. This episode follows Number Five, the show’s definitively worst charter, time travel in order to speak to himself. An episode that has one Number Five in is already too much for me, so two? No, thank you.

4. I Heard a Rumour (Season one, episode eight)

IMDb rating 8.5

In this episode, the producers tease us by giving us a little taste of how powerful Viktor may be. In an unforgivable twist we see Viktor slit Allison’s throat, leaving not only her powers but her life in the balance. This episode is where Allison really proves herself to be the best, and most emotionally stable, character in the show. Yes, she has her faults but she is the only character who has any sort of self awareness and tries to tackle her problems head on whilst the other siblings just cry about it.

3. 743 (Season two, episode nine)

IMDb rating: 8.7

In classic Umbrella Academy behaviour, we see the siblings stop yet another apocalypse. This episode demonstrates the siblings familial connections are their best. Ben, despite being dead, manages to get through to Viktor and stop him living in the horrors of the past. In a heart wrenching scene, Ben says to Viktor: “You’re not a monster. You’re my sister.” I’m not crying, you are.

2. The White Violin (Season one, episode 10)

IMDb rating: 8.7

The first season finale is, of course, one of the best ever episodes of the show. Final episodes can be hard to get right as they’re so highly anticipated it’s easy to disappoint the audience, but this episode is just spot on. It ties up all the loose ends from the season whilst revealing to the viewer the full extent of Viktor’s powers, setting up nicely for the start of the second season. Pure perfection. Although the white contacts do freak me out a little.

1. The End of Something (Season two, episode 10)

IMDb rating: 8.9

Finally, the ranked best ever episode of The Umbrella Academy is the finale of season two. In this episode we see Umbrella Academy become the closest it can to a blockbuster movie. All the siblings come together to rescue Harlan from the farm where the Handler is attempting to kidnap him. We see an epic showdown between the Hargreaves siblings and the Handler’s army where miraculously, nobody is hurt. Clearly the Handler’s army does not have as good aim as Diego. This is also the episode where Lila’s powers are finally revealed and in a twist that no one saw coming, we see Lila use the sibling’s own powers against them.
