Here we go again, Love Island’s Coco Lodge is being trolled over her appearance

Thankfully people are calling out the vile comments

New Love Island cast member Coco Lodge is being trolled over her appearance and receiving thousands of hate messages across a number of social media platforms, and quite frankly, it needs to stop.

Coco, who is 27 years old and lives in Surrey, entered the main Love Island villa on Sunday evening alongside five other new women. The six women entered the villa as part of the traditional challenge which sees the main villa split up, and one group sent to a new villa called Casa Amor, and 12 new Islanders introduced to test their existing relationships.

And Coco has wasted no time in getting to know the boys. She boldly asked Davide if he fancied her and they shared a kiss. However, her main interest has been Andrew, who she’s kissed and shared a bed with.

In the few days she’s been in the villa Coco has been ruthlessly trolled over appearance, with people on Twitter and TikTok comparing her to footballer Jonjo Shelvey, and cartoon characters Coraline and Fru Fru from Zootopia.

The comparisons TikToks have attracted thousands of views with hundreds of comments which include laughing face emojis and people agreeing with the comparisons.

People have also been asking how Andrew can fancy her and picking apart her looks. And on Instagram people are being just as mean, commenting on her posts saying “why can’t she smile properly?” and Andrew is “too hot” for her.

And on Google people are rapidly searching for “is Coco transgender?” and “Coco Love Island before surgery”, which was also the top search for fellow Islander Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu when she first entered the villa.

Regardless of what you think about her behaviour in the villa, making fun of her appearance is just cruel and uncalled for. Though there is a lot of negativity towards her, many people have also been commenting saying how much they love her and that the villa was “boring before her”.

There is also a lot of people commenting across all social media platforms the hashtag “be kind”, which went viral following the death of former Love Island presenter Caroline Flack, as a reminder for people to remember the impact their unkind words can have.

This isn’t the first time a member of the Love Island cast has been trolled this season. Amber Beckford’s family made a statement saying they were deleting her Twitter account before she left the villa because of the level of hate.

They described the comments directed at Amber as “sickening” and said in order to protect Amber’s mental health they would be deleting her account.

They said: “We didn’t want to have to post something like this but please remember that bullying somebody over an hour episode of a televised show is damaging. Bullying and negative comments can be extremely harmful to someone’s mental health and sometimes in worse cases can be fatal. We will not stand for bullying and harassment.”

They ended their statement by saying “if you have nothing nice to say, keep it to yourself.”
