This is what a relationship expert thinks of Love Island’s first couples

‘All the signs point to them not being a match’

The first episode of Love Island 2022 finally aired on ITV2 last night and it featured a new twist on the traditional coupling up ceremony, resulting in some rather interesting pairings.

Usually the girls will step forward for the boys they fancy and then the boy will choose which girl to couple up with. However, this year the public made the decision of who would couple up by voting on the Love Island app.

Apart from Liam, none of the Islanders seemed overly thrilled with their assigned partner and already seem interested in pursuing other Islanders. But do any of these original couples have a romantic future? Relationship expert at condoms.uk, Robert Davies, has given his take and ranked the potential compatibility of the Love Island couples, and it is not looking good for some of the pairs.

This is what a relationship expert thinks of the first Love Island couples:

Dami and Amber – 4.5/5

26 year old Dami and 24 year old Amber were the first couple to be paired up in the show and Robert reckons they have the best chance of compatibility, giving them a score of 4.5/5.

He said their first meeting showed some good signs as they “met in a smiley and polite manner, greeting each other with a double cheek kiss.”

Robert also thought “their later conversations showed good vibes between them. The toe-sucking moment during the evening game, along with their initial spark of fun conversation, also showed a potentially solid match for future episodes.” Toe-sucking means you’re compatible? Ok then.

Ikenna and Indiyah – 4/5

Next up is Ikenna and Indiyah who are both 23 and share the same first name initial, as Ikenna helpfully pointed out in yesterday’s episode. But does this mean they’re a match?

Robert gave them a hopeful score of 4/5 because of they way they acted during the challenges at the end of last night’s episode: “If they continue to open up to each other, this could be a great match – in the evening games, Ikenna chose Indiyah as the person he fancies most, and they had fun taking on some of the other dares, showing the potential for romance to be bubbling under the surface if they let it.”

However, Robert also said this could be more of a friendship than a romantic relationship. At least Indiyah wasn’t put off by the Crocs.

Andrew and Tasha – 3/5

We didn’t get to see a lot of Tasha and Andrew in last night’s episode and it doesn’t look like they’ve got a big romantic future.

Robert said the couple seem “mismatched” as Andrew was “claiming to be the relationship type whereas Tasha had had shorter-term partners in the past.”

They’re not completely doomed – Robert says this mismatched attitude towards relationships could be “a pink flag” but there is more potential perhaps to be seen.

Luca and Paige – 2/5

via ITV

The last couple to be paired was 24 year old Paige and 23 year old Luca, and Paige did not seem overly thrilled with the match.

Robert described their first meeting as “slightly awkward” and apart from their conversations about sex positions being quite fun, he thinks “all the other signs point to them not being a match.”

The signs in question? Robert said: “Paige shared average first impressions of Luca and Luca admitted that he already had a wandering eye after some of the other girls.”

Liam and Gemma – 1.5/5

In perhaps a surprise to no one but Liam, Robert doesn’t think Gemma and Liam are well suited. He gave them the lowest score of compatibility – just 1/5.

Robert said Gemma’s actions towards the other boys “including teasing Luca on his surname, and saying that bombshell Davide was ‘her type on paper’ and the one she was most attracted to”, indicated she was more interested to getting to know the other boys

Gemma refusing to take part in the challenge with Liam showed she has “minimal effort in pursuing or exploring a romantic relationship between them.” Yikes, maybe best to move on Liam.
