Liam Payne accent

Liam Payne has finally addressed the weird accent and *that* Oscars red carpet interview

‘I stand by what I said, I’m just sorry it came out in so many accents – I’m a social chameleon’

Stop the press, guys, because the moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived. Liam Payne has addressed the viral accent he ended up coming out with on the red carpet of the Oscars when interviewed by GMB – and we can rest easily now we have some closure.

Speaking on an Instagram Live, Liam said the following: “The ever-changing accent! I’m good at accents, I pride myself on accents, I just wish I could do my own. No, I mean, what can I say about that really? It was quite funny. I had asked the Good Morning Britain presenter to not ask me too much because I’d had a lot to drink and I’m underly educated about the Oscars, and the very first question the man asked me was ‘What do you think about Will Smith?’

“Now, can you imagine being put on the spot in that moment and knowing ‘I can’t say anything wrong, because I’m going to upset someone’? I just did the best I could. I read back what I said and I stand by what I said, I’m just sorry it came out in so many accents. I’m not even sure if it’s an accent I can do.

“If you want proof of this, go back and watch my first audition. I didn’t know back then that the Birmingham accent was going to become really cool because of Peaky Blinders, but I don’t sound like I’m from Birmingham. But when my mum is here, you bloody bet I do. One of my boys is from Leeds, roughly the same area Louis comes from, and when I’m round Louis it’s ‘yalreet kid?’ It comes out different. I’m a social chameleon. I’m ever-changing. But what can I say? It was funny, though, wasn’t it?”

Yes, Liam Payne, your weird hybrid accent was indeed somewhat funny. Congrats!
