The Woman in the House ending explained

An explanation of the very chaotic ending in The Woman in the House on Netflix

What was Glenn Close doing on that plane may I ask?

Anyone who’s watching The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window will know it’s pure chaos. Seriously, did her daughter actually die at the hands of a cannibal killer and what the hell was Glenn Close doing on the plane at the end? You probably have a lot of unanswered questions which you need to be explained, so here’s everything you need to know about the ending of The Woman in the House on Netflix:

Right, so what is The Woman in the House about?

The Netflix series followed Anna after losing her daughter to a cannibal serial killer. She’s slipping into alcoholism and suffers from ombrophobia which is a fear of rain. Plus, her situation isn’t helped by the fact she’s pretty much always found nursing a very large glass of red wine which she uses to swallow down her medication before staring out the window across the street.

Anna witnesses what she believes to be the murder of Lisa, her neighbour’s wife, but she cannot prove anything. Across the eight chaotic episodes, we learn what happened to Lisa and how Anna’s daughter died.

Who kills Lisa and why did they do it?

Lisa’s killer was revealed to be Neil’s (her husband) daughter, Emma. When Anna returned to Neil’s house she saw his throat had been cut and Emma was standing above him with a knife. Emma revealed the reason she killed Lisa was because she refused to buy chocolate boxes for Emma’s school. We then discovered Emma had previously killed her own mother after learning she was pregnant with another child. Plus she also murdered one of her school teachers by pushing her from the top of the light house.

Emma was about to kill Anna as well but Anna killed her first in an act of self defence. Later on we also found out Anna’s fear of rain comes from the last time she saw her daughter alive and it was raining. It was also revealed Anna’s therapist was her ex-husband Douglas.

Toward the end, the final episode flashed forward to one year later and we learn Anna’s had another daughter with Douglas. We see Anna on a flight to New York and she seems to be doing better, she’s no longer mixing her medication with wine and now enjoys a vodka rather than bottle of red. On the plane she is sat next to a wealthy looking woman who played by Glenn Close and then next thing we know Anna goes to the toilet and finds Glenn’s character murdered. She asks the flight attendant for help but realises the body has gone and she is then told she wasn’t actually sat next to anyone on the plane. It’s so chaotic but suggests she’s hallucinating again – classic Anna.
