Love Actually is a film of multiple interwoven storylines exploring different kinds of love. And one of these is definitely a love letter to London. The city plays the perfect backdrop for the characters’ highs and lows of the festive season. It’s there for the declarations of love and the scenes of heartbreak. Harry in Selfridges, I’m looking at you. And of course it works so well because nothing is better than London at Christmas.

Though a number of scenes were filmed in a studio, the majority of the movie was actually shot on location throughout London. The real number 10 Downing Street was not used as a location, however many other London landmarks such as Trafalgar Square and Somerset house were used for shots throughout.

Notting Hill, a house in Brixton and a school in Putney were just some of the Love Actually filming locations. Many of these key places you can still wander past or visit, such as the bench Daniel and Sam have their deep conversation on.

These are all the real life Love Actually filming locations you can visit:

Daniel and Sam’s heart to heart on the bench

Daniel and Sam’s deep conversation about love takes place next to the Thames. The filming location for the scene was Queen’s Walk which is a path on Gabriel’s Wharf, South Bank.

The actual bench itself is located outside The Wharf Restaurant at 56 Upper Ground, SE1 9PP.

The dodgy end of Wandsworth

Near the end of the film David travels all the way to the “dodgy” end of Wandsworth in order to confess his love for Natalie.

In reality the “dodgy” end was actually filmed in Brixton. The scene took place at 102 Poplar Road in Herne Hill, Brixton.

Peter and Juliet’s wedding

Keira Knightly’s character gets married in a big church full of surprise wedding singers.

The actual church is Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair on South Audley Street. If you want your own Love Actually wedding, the church still allows for weddings to take place.

Mark runs off after Juliet sees the tape

This is one of the most awkward scenes in film history. After Juliet sees the tape of her Mark runs away from his flat.

The outside shots were filmed outside Oxo Tower Wharf Barge House Street. You mean to tell me Mark could afford to live by the Oxo Tower?

The scene is literally less than a five minute walk to the bench where Daniel and Sam have their chat.

The cards scene

Idk about you but in the scene where Mark declares his love for Juliet with the signs, all I’m looking at is the gorgeous house.

The scene was filmed outside 27 St Luke’s Mews in Notting Hill. The street has become so famous with tourists for its aesthetic that the council had to ask people not to turn up and take pictures.

And now the house next door to the Love Actually one is up for sale for a casual £3.25million. The house is listed by Knight Frank and contains three bedrooms and a boujie rooftop.

Jamie’s house

The house where Jamie discovers he is getting cheated on is in West London.

Jamie’s house is 2a Blenheim Road, Turnham Green.

The Christmas concert

The scene in which multiple storylines come together is the school Christmas concert.

They really did film in a school in south west London called Elliott School in Putney. The school has now been renamed Ark Putney Academy and is for children aged 11 to 18.

Harry buys the necklace

The ultimate betrayal took place in Selfridges when Harry bought that necklace for Mia.

And they really did shoot the scene in Selfridges. Emma Freud, is who the partner of the film’s director, Richard Curtis, revealed on Twitter they filmed the scene at midnight in the store.

Heathrow Airport

Both the closing and opening scenes of Love Actually were filmed on location in Heathrow Airport.

The scenes of people greeting their loved ones, were real people who the camera crew would record and then track down to ask their permission to be featured in the film.
