Here are the real life filming locations used in The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix

You can book your wedding at the manor, if for some reason you’d like that

The Haunting of Bly Manor is finally on Netflix, after what seems like a lifetime of waiting. The second in the anthology, following from Hill House, sees Victoria Pedretti return – this time to work as an au pair in the creepy British manor house. When you’re not watching the background for the all the hidden ghosts, you might be admiring some of the stunning filming locations used during The Haunting of Bly Manor.

Despite being set in England, the horror series wasn’t actually filmed there. Here are all the real life filming locations used for The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix.

The filming locations for The Haunting of Bly Manor were mainly across Vancouver, Canada

Bly Manor might be set in England, but it was actually mostly filmed in Vancouver’s Bridge Studios in the winter of 2019, through till February 2020. The interior shots of the manor were all filmed in the studios.

Some of the various garden, outdoor and exterior scenes were filmed in Central Park, Burnaby, Canada.

So, is Bly Manor a real place?

Unfortunately, Bly Manor is not actually a real place. However, it is inspired by a real life haunted mansion. Henry James wrote The Turn of the Screw, which The Haunting of Bly Manor is based on, after hearing of the mansion Hinton Ampner’s haunting. Hinton Ampner is a estate in Hampshire, England.

However, it looks like the exterior shots of Bly Manor were actually filmed at Thornewood Castle in Lakewood, Washington. The Castle was also used as a set for the Stephen King horror miniseries Rose Red.

The English Tudor-style property is now a hotel, which is a popular venue for weddings and events. The hotel has a little balcony on the side, which looks very similar to where Dani spots the ghost of Peter Quint for the first time.

If you want a sneak peek of inside the studio set for Bly Manor, the house has a (unfortunately fake) listing on Zillow. It’s described as “a perfectly splendid 17th-century home in the English Countryside. The Manor is currently inhabited by the remaining members of the Wingrave family and their staff, who welcome guests of all ages and backgrounds to stay as long as they’d like.”

The house in the opening scenes

The series opens up with a spooky ghost story being told at a wedding rehearsal dinner. This is said to be taking place in Northern California.

Atlas of Wonders has found that this house is actually Cecil Green Park House at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. The Tudor-style property has been on screen before, including in Netflix’s Riverdale and the movie Fifty Shades Freed.

After her seemingly awful interview with Henry, Dani heads to a bar – where Henry shortly ends up joining her. Atlas of Wonders found this as being The Irish Heather, an Irish bar in Vancouver.

The gastropub is in Gastown, which is the same area where Henry’s office was filmed at and where Owen was seen picking Dani up from to take her to Bly Manor.

The accident in episode four

A final filming location was the accident in episode four. The camera pans to show a shot of “Splash Toy Shop” before the accident takes place.

A quick search for this shop in real life shows that it does exist, and is at 3580 Moncton Street, Richmond, Vancouver.
