Wagatha Christie timeline

Exactly a year on, this is all the drama that’s happened in the Wagatha Christie scandal

Thanks for the memes ladies x

One year ago today the most iconic moment in pop culture occurred…it was the beginning of the Wagatha Christie scandal.

Coleen Rooney shared that fateful note on her Instagram claiming Rebekah Vardy was selling stories about her to the press and since then the memes and legal battles have kept on coming.

And so on this legendary anniversary it seems only right that we take a look back at everything that’s happened between the women in the last 365 days, a Wagatha Christie timeline if you will.

There’s been lawyers sacked, Dancing On Ice deals signed and even a rumour of a Netflix series, this is everything that’s gone down between Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney in the last year:

The post that started it all

What was life like before this scandal happened? Really can’t remember and I don’t ever want to. On her Instagram and Twitter accounts Coleen Rooney shared a note claiming Rebekah Vardy was selling stories to the press about her from her private Instagram account.

Coleen said someone who was following her private Instagram account had been leaking information about her to The Sun and she had a sneaky suspicion of who this person was.

So in order to catch them she blocked everyone from viewing her stories apart from the one person she suspected. Over a few months she posted a number of fake stories such as going to a gender selection in Mexico and making a return to TV to see if the stories would end up in the paper.

She said: “Over the past five months I have posted a series of false stories if they made their way into the Sun newspaper. And you know what, they did! The story about gender selection in Mexico, the story about returning to TV and then the latest story about the basement flooding in my new house.

“It’s been tough keeping it to myself and not making any comment at all, especially when the stories have been leaked, however I had to. Now I know for certain which account/individual it’s come from.”

Coleen then said she had screenshots as evidence and then delivered the final blow that it was Rebekah Vardy’s account who had shared the stories. And a scandal was born.

Rebekah denied it

That same day Rebekah denied sharing stories to the press. Rebekah wrote on Instagram that she wished Coleen had called her about this if she thought it was true. She also said over the years many people had access to her Instagram account and she was following people she didn’t even know.

She wrote: “As I have just said to you on the phone, I wish you had called me if you thought this. I never speak to anyone about you as various journalists who have asked me over the years can vouch for.

“If you thought this was happening you could have told me & I could have changed my passwords to see if it stopped. Over the years various people have had access to my Insta and just this week I found I was following people I didn’t know and have never followed myself.”

Rebekah continued her statement questioning why she would sell stories when she doesn’t need the money and wished Coleen had not done this to her whilst she was pregnant.

She wrote: “I’m not being funny but I don’t need the money, what would I gain from selling stories on you? I liked you a lot Coleen and I’m so upset that you have chosen to do this, especially when I’m heavily pregnant.

“I’m disgusted that I’m even having to deny this. You should have called me the first time this happened.”

Rebekah hires legal team

Rebekah confirmed on Instagram she was launching a “forensic investigation” and had hired a legal team to find out if anyone else had access to her account.

However Coleen’s rep defended Coleen’s claiming, saying it was “irrefutable that the leaks came from one account, and one account only.”

Rebekah compares Coleen to a pigeon

Yes really. In a bizarre twist of the Wagatha Christie timeline, Rebekah referred to Coleen as a pigeon.

In the days after Coleen’s first post, Rebekah spoke to The Daily Mail. She said she had been blocked from Coleen’s account a few months before the scandal, and when she messaged her to find out why, Coleen blamed it on the kids.

Rebekah said: “I sent her a message and asked her: ‘Have I done something, is there a problem here? I seem to be blocked on Instagram’.

“And she said no, it was probably one of the kids messing about with her phone that had done it. She was completely convincing.”

Rebekah shared she and Coleen had a phone call after the scandal in which Coleen had apparently said: “You know, I always really liked you, which makes it harder.”

But obvs the best bit of the interview was when Rebekah said she didn’t argue with Coleen over the phone as that would be like “arguing with a pigeon.”

She said: “That would be like arguing with a pigeon. You can tell it that you are right and it is wrong, but it’s still going to shit in your hair.”

Rebekah has an interview on Loose Women describing the abuse she’s suffered since the scandal

This year the scandal started up again in February when Rebekah had an interview on Loose Women. On the show she spoke about the impact the allegations had had on her.

Rebekah described the trolling she received online which resulted in several arrests being made and Rebekah suffering from anxiety attacks.

She even said her daughter had received horrible messages on Instagram about the allegations. Rebekah compared the abuse she received to that which occurred when she was younger.

She said the scandal was “one of the worst things I had to deal with apart from being abused when I was younger”.

Coleen fired her legal team

According to The Sun, Coleen fired her legal team and hired an “expensive London legal team who are specialists in media and privacy work.”

Rebekah files a lawsuit

It was reported Coleen and Rebekah tried to sort out the issue over a video call but that nothing was resolved and therefore Rebekah filed a lawsuit.

At the beginning of June Rebekah filed a lawsuit against Coleen for defamation, libel and slander. In the legal documents Rebekah claimed Coleen had used her as a “scapegoat” and she “felt suicidal” during the scandal.

The lawsuit also claims Coleen’s post and the repercussions of it resulted in Rebekah ending up in hospital three times for anxiety attacks and fears she may have lost her baby or gone into early labour. Making the battle legal, will apparently cost both women £500k .

Netflix might be making a series out of it

In a random twist to the Wagatha Christie timeline, there were rumours that Netflix was reportedly making the scandal into a true crime series.

After the news of the lawsuit someone on Twitter reacted to it and said: “@NetflixUK get ready! Can’t wait to watch this.”

And then Netflix replied with a “👀” emoji. It was then reported Netflix are thinking of making an “OJ trial-style mini-series about Rebekah Vardy’s Wagatha Christie legal battle with Coleen Rooney. ”

When the news of the scandal first came out, Netflix even tweeted: “we’re going to have to make a documentary about this, aren’t we.”

Coleen files her defence

Coleen eventually filed her 55 page defence and included within it screenshots of the stories she had put on her private Instagram account that she had accused Rebekah of sharing with the press.

The document also apparently contains the length at which Coleen went to to discover who had been leaking her secrets.

Rebekah joins Dancing On Ice

The latest update in the scandal is Rebekah is joining the Dancing on Ice lineup.

Whilst being interviewed about joining the show, Rebekah said she wants to “clear her name” and though she and Coleen tried to “sort things out amicably, it just didn’t work.”

Watch this space, because there’s defo going to be more drama to come.
