You season three is unofficially confirmed and it doesn’t look good for Joe

I’m ready for this now

For those of us who have already binge watched all of season two, there’s some good news on the horizon – You season three has pretty much been confirmed.

Penn Badgley, who plays Joe, let slip in an in an interview that it is unofficially happening. Which basically means it is, but he shouldn’t have said so. Here’s everything we know about You season three so far.

Is there going to be a You season three?

Whilst it hasn’t been officially confirmed by Netflix, everything else is pointing towards a third season definitely happening.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Penn Badgley was speaking about Love Quinn’s character moving forward. He said: “She doesn’t appear to be the same kind of predator, she doesn’t appear to be the same kind of you know, dare I say, in the third season – oh, God!”

Of course he was then asked if that was him saying the third season was coming, and he said: “Technically I can’t. I mean, like, unofficially?”

The show’s creator, Sera Gamble, also sounds hopeful. In an interview with Hollywood Reporter she said: “I will say that we have a lot of stories still to tell. I am not scared at all of saying that we definitely could follow Joe for several more seasons.”

Caroline Kepnes, author of the ‘You’ book series, has confirmed there is going to be a third and fourth book. So it would make sense that further novels will be adapted for TV too.

What might happen in the third season?

The third book will see Joe move to the Pacific Northwest with a plan to become a family man – but in his own unique way of course.

Sera Gamble said: “We are evoking where we would like to go, which is to a much more suburban, insular world where Joe would be a complete fish out of water. Joe is still Joe in a way that’s not going to be great for Joe. That he has not learned that he cannot just keep looking for the next person to attach his hopes and dreams to that way. It seems clear that he’s falling into some version of that same pattern. I can’t say that we know exactly what a season three would be, but I can say things won’t go well for Joe.”

Sera added that some characters from season two might return in future episodes. When asked if cast members such as Ellie and Love’s friends could be back, she said: “I don’t see why not. Part of the fun of Joe is that he is not very good at doing bad things. He doesn’t plan them well. He doesn’t execute them perfectly like a mastermind. And so there is always the worry that things from his past are going to catch up with him. What’s great about that is it creates a landscape for the show where you do get to revisit your favourite characters moving forward. Ellie is still in Joe’s life. He’s sending her money. She hates him, but he is sending her money. So that door remains open for us. And as you saw in season two, I mean Beck was dead and she came back. One of my favourite things to do is bring back a dead person to haunt you. So the door is wide open for everybody’s favourite characters.”

Whether it be in season three or beyond, Penn Badgley thinks Joe needs to get his comeuppance sooner or later. In an interview he said: “I think he deserves something better now, you know? Like I’m not sure that that’s possible,” the 33-year-old actor conceded. “What does Joe need? Joe needs, ugh, Joe needs justice, but what does that mean? Does that mean prison? Does that mean death? I don’t know.” When asked if he thinks Joe will end up being murdered, he said: “He inevitably will be, right? I mean, he has to be.”

When would You season three be released on Netflix?

Both season one (2018) and season two (2019) were dropped on Boxing Day, so if / when season three does happen – Boxing Day is looking like a good estimate for the release date.

Which in my humble opinion, is way too far away.

You season two is currently available to stream on Netflix. For all the latest Netflix news, drops and memes like The Holy Church of Netflix on Facebook.
