A 21-year-old last seen at Cambodian beach party has been declared missing

Police and volunteers are searching for Amelia Bambridge

A former West Sussex student last seen at a beach party on a Cambodian Island has been declared missing.

21-year-old Amelia Bambridge was visiting the island of Koh Rong when she disappeared. Police and Volunteers are now patrolling the island for her.

Amelia's handbag containing her purse, phone, and bank cards, was found on Police Beach, where the party took place. The manager of the hostel she was staying at contacted Amelia's mum, Linda Bambridge, after Amelia failed to check out at 12pm on Friday.

Amelia had promised to a friend on Friday to leave the island, but she never returned to the hostel to collect her passport.

Her family told The Argus: "This is very out of character, she is normally so organised.

"I don't know what to think. The police have confirmed she is missing – apparently the embassy is closed until Monday. There doesn't seem to be any urgency."

The hostel said to be a 40-minute walk away from Police Beach. Linda said she hopes Amelia got lost in the densely forested area on her way back.

18-year-old Ryan Harris, who met Amelia during their travels, said residents of the island were coming together to find her.

He told the BBC: "People are diving. People are checking the jungles aand beaches.

"Police sent three search teams out, so they're healping as well.

"It's a whole island thing now. Everyone's looking."

A spokesperson for the foreign office said it is assisting the search and is working with Cambodian police.

Georgie Bambridge, Amelia's sister, told The Argus: "She is strong-minded, really sensible, and very organised.

"She spent the last year googling solo female travelling, looking at pages and blogs, and sorting out everything.

"I'm just in shock. She has never done anything like this before."
