Man charged with rape and murder of Hull student Libby Squire

Libby Squire’s body wasn’t found for seven weeks after she went missing

A man has been charged with the rape and murder of Libby Squire, a Hull student who died after going missing in February.

Libby's body was found in the Humber estuary almost seven weeks after she went missing at the end of a night out in Hull.

Pawel Relowicz was previously questioned in connection with the philosophy student's disappearance without being charged.

Now, the 25-year-old has been charged after a "lengthy and complex investigation".

"This decision was made following a careful review of all the evidence presented to us by Humberside Police as a result of their lengthy and complex investigation," said Chief Crown Prosecutor Gerry Wareham.

"Criminal proceedings against Mr Relowicz are now active and he has a right to a fair trial."

On February 1st, Libby was turned away from Hull's Welly nightclub at 11pm. She was then dropped at her house, and seen along Hull's Beverley Road 40 minutes later.

Hundreds of police, students, and Hull locals searched for Libby in the aftermath of her disappearance as the community rallied. Local businesses gave away free drinks to those taking part in the searches, and a club introduced free phone charging.
