Here are 2019’s most complained about Love Islanders

Oh wow I wonder if it’s Maura or Joe?

Plenty of minor things about Love Island aggravate me: the weird acoustic covers, the adverts, the whole "Is it staged?" debate.

Yet, some moments wound y'all up more than others. So much that people complained to Ofcom. Leaving aside the issue of the nation's telecoms regulator becoming a step up from Twitter for anyone trying to cancel a celeb, the numbers are pretty mad.

Love Island 2018 attracted over 3,000 complaints. These are the most unpopular moments.

Maura – 709 complaints for trying to kiss Tommy

Remember when Maura scaled Tommy Fury like the south face of an Andean mountain to try and plant a kiss on his stubbly summit? Reluctant Tommy simply wasn't into it.

It was a bit of drama to add to the ultimately-failed Jack and Dani tribute act him and Molly-Mae were plodding through. However, it concerned people because Maura was too forward, and so 709 people complained.

This means it was the most complained-about moment of this year's series.

Explaining why they weren't going to investigate the complaints any further, Ofcom said: "While we recognise that many viewers disapproved of a contestant's behaviour in this episode, we took into account the context in which it occurred, including the nature of Maura and Tommy's relationship, before and after."

Joe – 700 complaints for being controlling with Lucie

Joe Garratt's behaviour towards Lucie at the start of the series drew almost as many complaints as Maura.

Viewers branded him "controlling" after he became angry at Tommy asking Lucie on a date. Fans also took issue over Joe telling Lucie not to change, whilst telling others he hoped she did change.

The charity Women's Aid issued a warning, saying: "Abusive relationships often start off with subtle signs of control, so it’s important that it is recognised at an early stage. Love Island viewers are now very vocal in calling out unhealthy behaviour between couples on the show, and this is a positive development.

Ofcom took no further action, saying: "While we understand some viewers were concerned for her well-being, we think most viewers would expect to see emotionally-charged scenes in a programme which shines a light on people's relationships."

Michael – 312 for TWO different incidents

The only person with two separate incidents on this list is Michael. Together they catapult him into third place in the complaints league, the lower leagues of the Love Island grievance pyramid.

169 people complained after he told Amber to "sit down". This wasn't great. Meanwhile, 143 complained about his treatment of Amber after recoupling with Joanna.

The losers? Pretty much everyone. The winner? Me, who only had to Google "chaldish" to find that picture above.

Amber and Anna – 208 complaints for being mean to Danny

It seems so long ago that Danny was paired up with Yewande and pied her for Arabella. Well, the aftermath was realer-than-real. Anna literally just shouts "Bye" at him, whilst Amber starts an argument by denying she's starting an argument for two minutes straight.

The scene, which prompted 208 complaints, resulted in producers stepping in to give the Islanders a "briefing" about how to conduct themselves.

Ofcom, meanwhile, said viewers should expect "highly-charged, confrontational scenes". Righto.

It also just makes you want to never come into contact with another human being again.
