Oxford is the second best university in the UK

The University of Oxford has been ranked the second best university in the UK, according to this year's Complete University Guide.

Unfortunately the number one position was given to Cambridge, who have been described as the "leading UK university" for the eighth consecutive year.

Rankings are dependent on several measures, such as student satisfaction, research quality, entry standards and spending on student facilities, amongst others.

Nationally, the top ten universities are: Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, Imperial, St Andrews, Durham, Loughborough, Lancaster, Warwick, and UCL.

Oxford was awarded second place in the previous 2018 and 2017 rankings.

Dr Bernard Kingston, Chairman of TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk, said: “The proportion of good honours has steadily but inexorably increased at almost all universities.

"Either students are working harder, or they are being better taught, or something else is happening. But it is one of the criteria over which universities have a significant degree of control.”
