University of Oxford has been ranked number one

The University of Oxford has been ranked the best university in the world, in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018.

The University of Cambridge was ranked second best, whilst Imperial College London came third.

Oxford, which has been named first for the second year in a row, scored best on research and citation credits. The university counts 26 UK Prime Ministers as alumni and will have Malala Yousafzai enrolling as a fresher this year.

In terms of student demographics, there are just over 20,000 students at the University of Oxford, with 38 per cent of those being international students. For every 11 students, there are two members of staff, with there being slightly more males in attendance than females.

Cambridge is up two places on last year in second place, scoring 97.8 out of 100 for the quality of its research.

UCL was ranked 16th in the world, the same as last year, whilst LSE was ranked 25th in the world but 5th best in the UK.
