Can you function without plenteous quantities of coffee? Do you need a steaming mug of Java, a cup of Morning Joe, to get you going in the AM? Without coffee, would you quite literally die?

Well, good news for you – scientists have theorised that drinking a shitload of coffee might actually lead to a longer lifespan.

It’s no secret that coffee has health benefits, with speeding up your metabolism and keeping you alert being just two. However, a newly published 16-year-long study in the Annals of Internal Medicine has found that increasing coffee consumption could significantly lower a person’s risk of early death.

Drinking coffee makes you look like this

The research was presented alongside another study of people across different ethnic groups, which found people who drank two to four cups of coffee a day had a lower death risk than those who drank no coffee at all.

Interestingly, the effects were the same for people who drunk decaffeinated versions of the drink – meaning the health benefits apparently do not lie in the caffeine, as you might expect.

The news comes on top of previous research stating that coffee can lower your risk of heart failureprotect you from Type 2 Diabetes and even lower your risk from certain cancers.

One mega grande espresso for me then, baristo.
