Everything Keeping Up With the Kardashians taught us over the last 10 years

But like how has it been on since 2007. HOW

KUWTK is 10 years old this year. 10. Years. Old. Just let that sink in for a moment.

Everyone knows it for what it is; trashy reality TV, that’s spawned a bunch of spin offs and a whole lot of drama. And maybe some life lessons. Actually, no, let’s be real, there’s an awful lot that can be learnt from the last 10 years of the show. It might not be winning any awards, but like it or not the Kardashians have shown that even people with seemingly everything are full of mistakes, and there’s a lot that can be learnt from their relatively down to earth attitude.

Well, as down to earth you can be when you have a collective net worth of over $300 million.

It’s OK to cry

It will surprise precisely no one to hear that the Kardashians are not afraid to get emotional and shed a few tears, particularly if there’s a camera nearby (shocker, I know). Life is hard sometimes, even for the Kardashians who have pretty much everything – and let’s be honest, it’s quite nice to know that even they sometimes need to just have a good cry.

  • Also, if Kim Kardashian can get up each day and face the world knowing they’ve all seen her “ugly cry face”, then you can handle whatever life decides to throw at you. Because, seriously, nothing is as bad as that.

But laughter is the best medicine

As Khloe would say, ‘I would rather cry than laugh’. Who wouldn’t? it’s good to have a positive outlook on life, and the Kardashian’s are strong advocators of that. Even Kim K managed to keep a smile on her face during her tough, and emotion fertility issues.

    Pregnant bodies are beautiful

Yes, Kim’s not the first female celebrity to advocate this, and no she wasn’t the last: Chrissy Teigen says she feels sexier with her post-baby body, and Jessie James Decker proudly hash-tagged #loosemommyskin on a recent photograph. But Kim was one of the first to showcase that it was okay to embrace your pregnant body on social media, making it relatable in the modern age.

    Actually, ALL bodies are beautiful

Of course they are, I hear you say? Well duh, we know that, but apparently not everyone does – including, for example, Piers Morgan, who seems to love mocking and slut-shaming women for being carefree about their bodies. It’s 2017, why is slut shaming even still a thing? Well, if it were up to Kim, it wouldn’t be. She respects the fact that women can do what they want with their bodies, whether they want to be conservative about it or not. ‘I am empowered by showing the world my flaws’ sends a strong body positive message to little girls around the world. You go, Kim.

    When in doubt, wear black

‘I’ll stop wearing black when they make a darker colour’ is not just a saying, it’s a way of life, and the Kardashians are well aware of this.

    Food is your friend

Something we all need help remembering from time to time, but the Kardashians prove that even people with amazing bodies are unable to pass up pretty much anything that’s been deep fried or covered in chocolate. Just like regular people, omg. To be fair though, Kim is pretty open about her insane Taco Bell obsession, and Kylie and Kendall were snapped tucking into pizza at the Golden Globes after party. Sure, it’s not quite the same as wolfing down a kebab after a night out like an animal (we’ve all been there, don’t even pretend), but it’s something.

No man is ever worth it

Khloe, Kim, and Kourtney have all had their fair share of BAD relationships, but do you know another thing they have in common? None of them put up with these bad relationships. OK, yeah, Kourtney put up with Scott for waaay too long, but they had kids so it’s understandable. But mostly, they all know there are more important things in life than trying to put up with a fuckboy.

    Always follow your dreams

The Kardashian clan were always destined for fame; it’s what they all wanted, from the beginning. OK, maybe with the exception of Caitlyn Jenner who just kind of seemed pissed off all the time about their fame seeking antics. But let’s face it, why do you think Kris Jenner was so quick to jump at the chance to be their “momager”, once she spotted her chance? (Spoiler, it was when Kim’s sex tape was leaked. Oops).  And look where they are now: one of America’s most famous families, even dubbed ‘America’s First Family’ by Cosmo.

    No pain, no gain

Remember that time Kim tried something called a vampire facial that involved having her face being stabbed with tiny needles full of her own blood? Enough said.

    Never stop learning

Education doesn’t stop once you leave school (duh), and sure, we don’t need to Kardashians to tell us this, it’s pretty obvious. There’s just something reassuring about seeing the biggest family in America actually learning and doing things for themselves. Khloe wrote and edited her own book, Kim was so involved in the development of her app that she practically made it herself (well, she didn’t actually make it herself but you see where I’m going with this), and Kendall didn’t let anything stand in the way of her becoming a Victoria Secret runway model. Everything they’ve achieved they’ve earnt for themselves, and that’s admirable.

    Don’t take shit from anyone

Let’s be real, it doesn’t get any better than a good old Kardashian clapback on Twitter. Even Kris dips her toe in every now and then. This is all fun and games, and a good laugh for their millions of social media followers, but it also shows that it’s OK to defend yourself when people are being dicks. Although we all knew that anyway.
