A quarter of all women have sex in the dark because they hate their bodies

Literally why we’re great

One in four women feel so embarrassed seeing themselves naked that they’re having sex with the lights off – or avoid it entirely – says depressing new research.

The survey, carried out by Weight Watches, spoke to more than 2,000 men and women and a staggering 75 per cent of women said they disliked their body. And 66 per cent of us said are “ashamed” of our bodies and appearance. Over a quarter – 27 per cent – admitted they have sex with the lights off, or not at all, because their body confidence is so low.

Over half of all the women surveyed said they even avoided looking at themselves in the mirror when getting undressed, and 38 per cent admitted they thought their partner wouldn’t find them attractive naked. More than 40 per cent of women surveyed said celebrity culture made them feel self-conscious about their bodies, compared to just 15 per cent of women.

The survey was taken for Weight Watchers’ magazine first naked issue. Editor Helen Renshaw said of the findings: “It is worrying that so many people feel unhappy or ashamed of their bodies.”
