UCAS is sending freshers free tampons in the post

Everyone is confused

In a charitable albeit confusing gesture for incoming freshers, UCAS is sending this year’s university applicants packages of Always and Tampax in the post. The products came in envelopes reading “Because the best times call for the best protection”.

UCAS explained the decision by saying it helped to keep costs down for applicants. “As UCAS receives no direct government funding, our commercial work helps keep the cost for students as low as possible”.

They added, “Applicants can opt out of receiving these at any time”.

Darcy Rak from Exeter was one student who received the package from UCAS. She said she found the gift bizarre. “That was the last thing I expected to fall onto the kitchen table. Why tampons? And why are they only offering something for females? What are they trying to say with this?”
