Oxford is the second most expensive place to live in the UK

A pint can set you back four quid

It has been revealed that Oxford is the second most expensive university town in the UK. Data has been compiled from various university-related websites such as The Complete University Guide, What Uni and Just Eat in order to find the cheapest university town.

The data, put together by marble.com, shows that the average rent for students in Oxford is £146 a week, with the most expensive being London, topping the tables at £212 a week. This compares to Queens University in Belfast, where students pay on average a mere £89 a week.

Students in London however get a higher loan to pay for their living, receiving up to £7000, whereas students at Oxford get the same amount as everyone else in the UK, despite the high living costs. Not only is weekly rent high, but so is the general cost of living.  A cinema ticket can cost up to £9.50, with the average pint costing £4.00.

A student travel pass will cost an average of £50, whilst an average gym membership can see students spending £20 a month. A post night out kebab in Oxford can cost an average of £5.73, in comparison to Leeds, where students will drunkenly part with £3.96.

The overall cheapest university town is Keele, where a pint can cost a mere £2.50.
