We asked the people of Hull who would be Prime Minister in their ideal world

‘We should just shoot them all’

The real world can be depressing. Especially when your outgoing prime minister is an austerity obsessed smarm ball who may or may not have stuck his penis in the mouth of a dead pig and your incoming one wanted to withdraw us from the European convention on human rights, besides voting against legalising the age of consent for gay sex.

So to escape the bleakness of reality for a few moments, we asked the people of Hull who they would have be Prime minister in an ideal world.

John, 22, Student

“Me. It’d be fun wouldn’t it? Have a crack. See a few bevs on everyone else.”

Anna, 38, factory worker

“I liked Tony Blair when he was prime minister. He might make a nice prime minister. David Cameron doesn’t know what he is doing, does he? I’m working now and i’m worse off than before when I wasn’t working.”

Kayleigh, 25, Artist

“Corbyn if we have to. But I’m a green member so Caroline Lucas all the way.”

Maria, 63, Retiree

“We should just shoot them all. It’s probably a violent way to resolve our problems. We’ve ruined your future. Maybe when you get to be old enough, you’ll make a better fist of it. Cos we’ve buggered it up. Sorry.”

Phil, 27, Student

“Someone who doesn’t run the country into the ground. That guy who’s dead. Tony Benn is it? That would probably be better”

Darren, 47, Carer

“It’d be Labour and it wouldn’t be Corbyn. It wouldn’t be Eagle either. What’s his name? That bloke from Manchester. Andy Burnham. That’d be my choice. He just comes across as an honest person.”

Julie, 55, Nurse

“Not Theresa May.  I don’t want her to go in cos she buggered all the police up and everything. The other one: Andrea Leadsom.”

Ken, 60, Security Guard

“The older woman. What’s her name? The one who’s going for the Conservative leadership. Theresa May. She has got experience. The older have more experience. Trust me.”

Natalie, 18, Student

“I suppose Jeremy Corbyn. I kinda like what he stands for. He would definitely do something about inequality in society. Despite him not being a strong leader, I feel like if he sorts out his cabinet then he can probably make some changes in Britain that the Tories wouldn’t be able to do.”

Chris, 25, Doctor

“Jeremy Corbyn, because he stands up for an ideal. He has policies that would be of benefit to people, but I don’t think they’ll vote for him. Cos people these days just want an iPad, a fast car. The aims of the prime minister and the aims of the government are just to please these people. They put a bit of money in their pockets, but take so much. Corbyn is not just pedalling slogans. You can see that in both his political past and the way he is currently working. But as I said, I don’t think he’ll be able to persuade enough people.”
