Pub bans under-25s after young people are blamed for spike in cases

Today is was reported that a pub in North Yorkshire has barred all people under the age of 25.

This follows after evidence was released showing that young people were the reason for a spike in coronavirus cases.

The Oddfellows Arms in Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire announced this as a result of the government enforced stricter limits on social gatherings. Funnily enough the ban of young people wasn’t set in place during the eat out scheme when pubs were raking it in, but I won’t be bitter about that.

The pub addressed their recent decision in a Facebook post. They stated: “In light of recent events and an escalation in cases we are now not serving anyone in the age bracket 18-25. We have thought about this very carefully, we will continue to try and ensure our community, customers and staff are all kept safe in these difficult times.”

So not only is the pandemic hitting harder up north, local 18-25 year-old residents in Sherburn-in-Elmet can’t even go and grab a pint after a long day working under the looming fear of redundancy.  The pubs statement ended saying they wish to open for everyone, as soon as it’s safe to do so.
