Former Love on the Spectrum couple Abbey and David confirmed their split in April, but there have been claims they ended things over differences in getting married<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The two confirmed their breakup in a statement to\u00a0People<\/a>: \u201cAbbey and David spent four and a half years together and truly value the time they shared and each other. At this point, they want different things and have decided to go their separate ways, but they remain friends wishing each other the best.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, now Abbey herself has personally spoken out about her split from David after Love on the Spectrum during an appearance on the Tea Time With Raven and Miranda podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She explained: “David and I decided to call each other \u2018best friends,\u2019 not boyfriend and girlfriend anymore.”<\/p>\n

When Abbey was asked how it feels to be “a single woman”, she responded: “Being a single lady, like what Beyonc\u00e8 says, it feels amazing. I\u2019ve grown and changed a lot over the past four and a half years. I wouldn\u2019t be where I am today. He was a good start.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abbey was asked by her mum about something “funny” she’d always say about David, with Abbey replying that at least David “wasn\u2019t cheating and lying\u201d like her brother\u2019s ex.”<\/p>\n

Abbey’s mum previously spoke about their split in a YouTube video<\/a>, saying that the two will always have a \u201cforever bond\u201d between them.<\/p>\n

She explained: \u201cAbbey and David had a long relationship of over four and a half years. Abbey has grown a ton since she started both social media and Love on the Spectrum. She started to understand her own story, see herself as a person with autism in the world, learn to accept her autism and still try to have a relationship and fit in.<\/p>\n

\u201cNone of this growth would have happened without David, that\u2019s what relationships are, they help us grow and change. And I think Abbey learned so much in this relationship. So I\u2019m personally grateful to David for being a mirror for her to see and figure out what she wants and who she is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abbey\u2019s mum also explained that neurotypical relationships look different from typical ones, saying: \u201cAnd the other thing is please don\u2019t judge autistic relationship as if they were typical. So many people on the spectrum are not going to do what normal people do.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re not in it to get married, get a house, get a new car, have children. They may never live together as a married couple. What they had was a great great thing, and that\u2019s thanks to the show. I feel like everyone\u2019s missing the point on Abbey and David. I think they will have a forever bond.\u201d<\/p>\n

She then shut down claims that they split up because of disagreements over getting engaged, clarifying: \u201cThere was no fight over engagements and rings being thrown around. Abbey would say she wanted to get married, which really meant \u2018I want to feel like a normal person in the world and do what they do in their relationships.\u2019 It was almost like having a party, not the idea of moving in together.<\/p>\n

\u201cDavid was happy in his way of doing life, and Abbey\u2019s was different and they found that out over a period of time. I\u2019m grateful for the time they had, it was a fabulous relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n
