And, throwing it back to May 2022, she was doing just that. <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/realityshrine\/2025\/10\/07\/all-the-awkward-times-the-white-house-savagely-shut-down-the-kardashians\/\">The Kardashians<\/a> star stepped out at the Met Gala wearing Marilyn Monroe&#8217;s &#8216;Happy Birthday, Mr President&#8217; dress.<\/p>\n<p>The moment was always going to be one that went down in history, naturally. But, when rumours began swirling around that Kim had &#8220;ruined&#8221; the dress&#8230; people were certainly not going to forget about it any time soon. Now, she&#8217;s finally come clean about what happened to the frock.<\/p>\n<h2>Kim hinted Marilyn Monroe&#8217;s dress got ruined<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kim Kardashian &amp; Teyana Taylor Take Lie Detector Tests | Vanity Fair\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-IU2z7awLSk?start=51&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After Kim wore the iconic dress in 2022, she faced a lot of backlash. People basically thought they noticed a &#8220;tear&#8221; in the garment and pointed the finger at her for the alleged damage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2022\/jun\/14\/kim-kardashian-accused-of-doing-permanent-damage-to-marilyn-monroe-dress\">The Guardian<\/a> reported: &#8220;A Marilyn Monroe collector has claimed that &#8220;permanent damage&#8221; has been inflicted by Kim Kardashian on the iconic dress Monroe wore to serenade John F Kennedy on his 45th birthday, shortly before the actor\u2019s death.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Appearing in a fun lie detector segment with Teyana Taylor for Variety this month, Kim answered the all-important question: Did she ruin Marilyn&#8217;s dress?<\/p>\n<p>Hooked up to the machine, Kim replied: &#8220;No&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Teyana asked: &#8220;So you&#8217;re saying that it got to you already whooped?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Smiling, Kim added: &#8220;I don&#8217;t know how it got to me, but it&#8217;s perfect now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So, when you tried it on, what was the dress giving?&#8221; continued Teyana.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/realityshrine\/2025\/09\/15\/seth-rogan-just-savagely-dragged-reality-tv-stars-at-the-emmys-and-its-not-the-first-time\/\">reality TV<\/a> star fired back: &#8220;You&#8217;re gonna cost me like $10 million in insurance&#8230; she responded, before Kimberly widened her eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Teyana asked her why she was shocked, before Kim laughed: &#8220;I&#8217;m not.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some pretty wild lengths had to be gone to in order for Kim to even be able to wear the dress to the Met, so it&#8217;s no wonder she probably wants to keep a lid on the details of it all!<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, &#8220;The dress was kept in a temperature-controlled environment since the tourist attraction bought it in 2016. It had not been worn by anyone between Monroe and Kardashian.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Before wearing it, Kim also said: &#8220;I\u2019m extremely respectful to the dress and what it means to American history&#8230; I would never want to sit in it or eat in it or have any risk of any damage to it, and I won\u2019t be wearing the kind of body makeup I usually do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p
